AWAKEN | DAY 9
“Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.”1 THESSALONIANS 5:16 -18
“No matter what?” Really?! Unwittingly we wait for good things to happen before we’re cheerful, much less thankful. Oh, we may smile, say an upbeat thing or two, or give “thanks” at mealtimes when prompted. Yet, our default mindset is to often view the bad or questionable stuff in our lives as punishment, and the blessings as favor. Quite possibly, the lousy and the favorable may be sent to us as tests, or a time of positioning for God to work on and through us.
If we can view circumstances, events and gifts in our lives as opportunities to grow and to be more like Jesus, then we can and will live habitually grateful lives. We will live cheerfully. And, God most assuredly will shine and receive glory.
Thank you, Father for occasions to be grateful. Help me to not view every inconvenience or closed door as “bad,” but simply as opportunities for growth or redirection from you. When I remember that you see my comings and goings, then I know that it is truly “all good.” Put buoyancy and thankfulness in my heart so the world will see you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
